WOW. Things have gotten strange.

I'm sure everyone's aware of what the latest Rachel Blake video has provided us.

Our hope is that she's ok and we'll be hearing from her soon.

Our quest for the Valenzetti equation must continue. But until we hear from the only person on the ground that we know of, I think information is going to be hard to come by.

As one of our friends likes to say:

"Stay tuned."

Just in case you haven't seen this at www.myspace.com/misterfrosty42.

It might have some bearing for you.

'The Numbers and The Valenzetti Equation'

Our fave numbers are everywhere right?

On the hatch, the screen, the radio signal, etc.

The are repeated over and over like a mantra.

I can almost see the Others doing jumping jacks and repeating those numbers over and over as the slip farther into their cult of DeGroot.

That said, Valenzetti.

His equation is said to be similar to The Drake Equation, right?

Which postulates the probabilty of intelligent life is in the universe, by entering certain percentages or probabilities into each step of the overall equation (such as # of planets, % of those with life, etc.)

Without knowing what questions are asked in the Valenzetti equation is it not possible that the Dharma Initiative is going with 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, & 42 as the figures they believe are the right ones.

Meaning that there are six probabilities that need to be answered/entered into the equation to get this ultimate answer.

Needs some work, but...as good as anything else, eh?

hmmmmm.... Interesting theory.

So you're saying that there might be either six parts to the equation or there are six different things that feed into the equation and we need to figure out what they are?

Oh wow does that ever strike a key, I remember an equation being discussed a while ago on PBS, or TLC. It was a huge string of variables, but it was verified as being correct by top mathemeticians around the globe. Everyday more is discovered and they change it. I don't think that it was to predict the end of the world, but the end of time itself. I will see if I can find it for you to read, you will want to.

Umm it wasn't about time, sorry about that, got really excited I guess. It was the 'NOVA-origins' series which was discussing the Drake Equation which figures out the existence of intelligent life in the universe. Still worth checking out, I really enjoyed it! Wouldn't surprise me if the Valenzetti equation was very similar to it. I really think now that the 'numbers' will play an important role in the equation itself. I really need to come here more often VEX, good work here. OH and congratulations on the mention in the RBlake blog. You deserved it!

I really need to read other comments before I post. Now I feel silly.

Yes, basically saying that the equation requires six factors entered into it to reach the 'Answer.'

...and 'The Numbers' we see all over the mythos of LOST are the factors that make up the equation.

We know what the answers are to the different parts of the equation, we need to find out what these factors represent.

Frosty, some people have said that certain numbers have "mystical" meanings, particularly the number 23.

I don't know how much mysticism can effect a mathematical equation but you never know.

You're right though... we need to figure out what the variables (if they're the "numbers" or not) mean and how they factor into the equation.

We need a copy of that book. I have a feeling it will answer a lot of those questions.

moz... Don't worry about repeating information...

I have no problems with people "thinking out loud" here about the VE.

oh.. and thanks for the kudos, moz.
