A Website!

We here at Finding the Valenzetti Equation are absolutely amazed. It has come to our attention that there's a website for the Gary Troup book about it. What is that all about?

We've been on the hunt for nearly a month now (in public) and this website appears out of thin air? Has the Hanso Foundation sought to answer our letters by allowing Hyperion to put up a website about the book? If that's their strategy, it will backfire. We're not going to give up the quest. We want them to give us a statement with Hanso's side of the story. We want them to give us the story of what is going on at the Vik Institute and, apparently, other locations around the planet according to some of our sources.

Take a look:

The Valenzetti Equation Website

Why do you think this has suddenly popped up? Are they cracking under the pressure of our requests?

All we know is we won't stop. All roads lead to the Valenzetti equation.

7/5/06 UPDATE: Thanks to one of our members (Thanks, Lauren), we've been able to extract an equation from this "new" website. Take a look:

Any mathematicians out there who can explain this for us?

This is making me think more and more about the proof to the equation.

A large equation like this requires a proof, a Mathematical Proof

Anyone can write some fancy numbers, but the proof shows how the equation is true. If someone were wanting to solve the Valenzetti Equation, they have to construct a proof first. More specifically they would need something like the Probabilistic Method

Very interesting, Kinetic.

Surely there's some evidence somewhere in the bowels of the institutions of Valenzetti's colleagues. Surely someone somewhere has some notes about this proof.

How do we get them to open up and share that with us?

You guys are poking in the right direction but with the wrong sticks.

You called it my friend. You are a visionary. This site is now in play. At they are confirming your accuracy in their thread.

Ok talked to a mathemetician friend of mine. And now I need another mathemetician to help me explain what my friend said.

Anyways, the equation on the site, is a proof that shows a pattern to a sequence of numbers. Something about convergence? Someone else elaborate?

Are you talking about the background equation? If you read the site you'll see they know nothing more than what we've already seen. I think that background equation is just for looks.

What I don't get is why come out with a site now that would seem to advertise the book, when the book itself is not available.

Sphynxian, do you care to explain yourself or do you always talk in riddles?

This, that scrolled across the screen.

convergence in an equation means that the answers (in this case, a series of numbers) will eventually head to a specific answer. This often happens in problems with summations (the epsillon symbols) such as this one. However to actually solve this would take a VERY long time...

Any mathy peeps out there? I gotta a question. If valenzetti came up with this equation to determine how many years we had left until nuclear annhiliation, when is the most likely date he'd start from? Cuban Missile Crisis start time? (And jeez, how would you actually determine when exactly it started? When Kennedy got the recon? Or when Khrushchev was born? )And would this equation then be static, by which I mean, would the numbers plugged into the equation never change because it requires a finite start and finish? Could it be that 108 is the number of years from, say October 16, 1962, that we'll nuke the planet?

And if so, could our Island and the 108 minutes be a study of problem solving, a Heuretic if you will, on a smaller scale? I mean, we were told that DHARMA stands for Department of Heuretics and Material Applications.

Shadow, unless you were using idiot savants to find the convergence?

Of course they're talking about time travel. So, let's assume that T eqauls Time. It is well-accepted that sigma squared equals Variance. In time equations, M (or m) equals the mean anomaly, which is a position. I actually think this makes sense in context. :)
